Plaster Of Paris is most commonly used construction material for ceiling and wall decoration purpose. It is a gypsum plaster having calcium sulfate hemihydrate which becomes hard when moistened. Also abbreviated as POP, this white colored powder can be shaped from small floral structure to large statues. It is made by heating gypsum to 120 to 180 degrees Celsius with a fire retardant as an additive. Plaster Of Paris also finds application in medical industry as a support for broken bones until they regenerate by applying it in bandage form. When reacts with water, it liberates heat via crystallization resulting in hardening.
